In October 1946, Soichiro Honda established the Honda Technical Research Institute in Hamamatsu, Japan, to develop and produce small 2-cycle motorbike engines. Two years later, Honda Motor Company, Ltd. was born, and in 1959 Honda opened its first storefront in Los Angeles with six industrious employees.

In 1979, we opened our first U.S. plant and have since evolved into a company that directly employs more than 25,000 associates. More than 100,000 workers are employed at authorized Honda automobile, motorcycle and power-equipment dealerships in the United States. Additionally, tens of thousands more are employed by more than 600 U.S. suppliers that manufacture parts and materials for Honda. Honda is proud to provide jobs that help strengthen the U.S. economy.

Honda's success in the global marketplace relies on its commitment to continued investment in North America's future. That's been our strategy since we first started in the U.S. because we are committed to build products close to our customers. It is what we believe in and is the key to our continued growth.
