On Thursday, May 5, 40 associates from Indiana Auto Plant (IAP) traded their hard hats and tools, for shovels and rakes to clean up local parks.

IAP partnered with the Decatur County Parks and Recreation Department for a community service afternoon, completing several landscaping projects in many of the area parks.

The associates provided several of the parks’ flowerbeds and entrances a face-lift by pulling weeds, planting new flowers, and laying fresh mulch.

“On behalf of the Decatur County Parks and Recreation Department, I want to thank Honda for partnering with our department for this community service project,” said Bob Barker, director of Decatur Count Parks and Recreation Department. “I think things went very well for the first year. We hope to continue this partnership for future projects as well.”

Also on Thursday, associates set up recycling bins donated to the parks department by IAP. The bins will be used to recycle aluminum cans and plastic bottles at the Decatur County Youth Sports Complex, Allen Memorial Swimming Pool and other Decatur County Parks.

”Honda is deeply committed to preserving the environment for future generations,” said Honda President Jun Nishimoto. “We are glad to provide these containers to help the community recycle, just as we do in our plant.”
